This is the story of a small village located in the Thrissur district's Koungallur Municipality. 'Methala Grama Panchayat; was considered to be the most revenue yielding grama panchayat in the Kodungallur town.
Even though this remote village wasn't influenced by the lifestyle or facilities of a city like Kodungallur, the Kodungallur Municipality merged this Grama Panchayat to the Kodungallur Municipality's area eyeing at the large revenue this panchayat yielded.. This adversely affected lives of many people residing in this area, as an upgrade from a panchayat to a municipality meant nothing but more expensive electricity and water, higher taxes, complicated government procedures and the problems associated a municipality over side.
Even though this was a blow to people of this area, they accepted it and moved on.
But the life did not become any better there after. When belonged to a panchayat, they had funds allotted for their well-being and therefore had enough roads and sufficient facilities. Just because they belong to a municipality now, they do not even have well maintained roads to travel. The municipality is least bothered about such remote places and keeps an eye only on the hearts of the town. A road that connects this region with the Kodungallur town was demolished for some water authority's pipeline works, and it is still left untouched and unpaired. According to the usual procedure, the water authority should have already debited enough amount for the maintenance of the road. But we are not aware where these funds have gone or who will take the responsibility for it.
The pic below will explain you the condition of the road and the hurdles that the people of this area has to suffer. Our nation needs a change. Our nation needs progress. Corruption even at the root level is still existing. We haven't improved a bit. We are still at the beginning.
